The Parliament's Secondary Legislation Committee has been asked to take action against institutions that fail to formulate regulations required under laws passed by Parliament within the stipulated timeframe.

The matter was submitted to the committee by the People's Majlis Counsel General.

Following discussions at a committee meeting yesterday, the committee tasked the administrative office with compiling details of regulations required under various laws and identifying those that remain overdue.

Committee members noted that delays in drafting regulations have led to significant challenges in implementing laws passed by Parliament.

Among the institutions raised before the committee was the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology. The ministry stated that some of the regulations had initially been drafted in English and are now being translated into Dhivehi in consultation with technical experts, with efforts underway to complete the work as soon as possible.

However, the ministry was unable to provide a completion date, prompting the committee to seek further clarification on when the work would be finalised.
