Galolhu North Member of Parliament Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu), representing the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has submitted a case to the People's Majlis requesting an inquiry into ongoing delays in the disbursement of financial aid distributed to persons with special needs through the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the MP emphasized that providing special assistance and protection to persons with disabilities is a constitutional obligation mandated upon the state. He further highlighted that the Act on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities explicitly guarantees the right of every individual with a disability to receive state-funded financial assistance and allowances.

However, Kudu noted that the financial allowances disbursed by the state through NSPA have recently failed to be deposited on their scheduled dates.

Pointing out that this allowance serves as the sole financial resource for many individuals with special needs to cover medical care, personal necessities, and daily essentials, the MP stated that these payment delays are causing severe financial and psychological hardships for the recipients and their families.

Consequently, Kudu requested the Parliament to refer the matter to the relevant parliamentary committee to hold NSPA and the administration accountable. He also urged the Majlis to push the government into establishing a reliable mechanism that ensures these critical allowances are consistently credited by a designated deadline every month.
