The Government has dismissed allegations made by former Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamaan Waheedagainst President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, describing them as false.

Speaking to the media before a Criminal Court hearing on Tuesday, Shamaan, who is facing charges related to money laundering and abuse of official position, alleged that he had been framed. He claimed that the case against him began after he brought information concerning alleged corruption linked to Home Minister Ali Ihusan to the attention of the President.

Shamaan further alleged irregularities in the foreign worker quota system and claimed that corruption was involved in the approval of work permits. He also accused senior officials, including the Home Minister and Attorney General Ahmed Usham, of orchestrating legal proceedings against him.

Responding to the allegations, Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussein Shareef said the claims made by Shamaan against the President were “deliberate falsehoods”.

The Government has not provided further comment on the specific allegations raised by the former Immigration Controller.
