The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported four additional cases of measles in the Greater Malé Region during the past week, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 15.

Measles is a highly contagious disease that spreads rapidly from person to person. Common symptoms include high fever, a red skin rash, cough, runny nose and red eyes.

The HPA warned that measles can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia and vision-related problems, and may pose a risk to life in severe cases. The agency emphasised that completing the recommended two-dose vaccination course remains the most effective way to prevent the disease.

The HPA advised individuals who develop a fever or rash to seek medical attention promptly, wear a mask when visiting healthcare facilities, avoid using public transport, and stay isolated if they are awaiting test results. People showing symptoms are also urged to avoid crowded places and close contact with others to help prevent further spread of the disease.
