On World Environment Day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to climate action and environmental protection.

In a message shared on X, the President stressed that the future of humanity is closely connected to the health of the planet. He noted that the Maldives, as a small island nation highly vulnerable to climate change, understands the urgent need to protect the environment.

President Dr Muizzu highlighted several ongoing climate initiatives, including the Project Solar City programme, improved disaster preparedness and early warning systems, and efforts to strengthen ecosystem protection and community-based adaptation.

He also emphasised that climate change is impacting people, ecosystems, and natural resources around the world, and said that global cooperation is essential to address these challenges through adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable practices.

In a separate video message, the President called on all Maldivians to take environmental protection seriously and participate in the Government’s Five Million Trees Project. He encouraged tree-planting activities across the country and urged young people to lead environmental efforts to help build a greener and more sustainable Maldives.

President Dr Muizzu concluded by calling for greater awareness, shared responsibility, and cooperation to protect the environment for future generations.
