An individual has been fined for violating regulations by subletting a housing unit out of the 4,000 flats constructed by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) in Hulhumalé.
An FDC official stated that the corporation is actively investigating cases where housing units have been rented out against established guidelines. In this regard, one individual was fined last month, and three others were issued written warnings. However, the specific fine amount was not disclosed.
The official added that two additional cases are currently under investigation.
Since the handover of flats built under the "Gedhoruveriya" housing scheme in Hulhumalé commenced, reports have surfaced of tenants subletting these units at exorbitant rates, sometimes doubling the rent amount due to FDC. Advertisements offering these flats for rent are frequently spotted on online platforms such as Facebook and iBay.
FDC has previously taken action against similar violations. In one notable case, a flat owner in the "Amaan Udhares" complex was fined MVR 50,000 for renting out the property to be used as a labor quarter for expatriates.
