President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has given the assurance that the government will remain steadfastly committed to protecting the youth generation from the dangers associated with tobacco.
In a post shared on X today in conjunction with World No Tobacco Day, the President stated that it is an honor for the Maldives to become the first country in the world to implement a "general ban" against tobacco, starting from the ban on e-cigarettes.
Highlighting the major steps being taken by the Maldives against tobacco, the President stated that the government will remain vigilant as efforts are being made to target young minds by advertising tobacco using artificial intelligence, alongside flavored nicotine pouches newly entering the market.
The President said that work is also underway to establish tobacco cessation clinics, designate smoke-free zones, and amend laws and regulations.
Furthermore, he assured that this government will remain committed to protecting the younger generation from this menace.
