A parliament sitting has been scheduled for Sunday to decide on a no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim.
The ruling PNC decided to seek Nazim’s dismissal on March 13 and later submitted the motion with signatures from 73 lawmakers.
Under the Constitution, a 14-day notice period is required before submitting a motion to dismiss the Deputy Speaker. Parliamentary regulations state that the sitting must take place on the next official day after the notice period expires.
The motion accuses Nazim of using his influence to misuse his position and encouraging actions against the interests of parliament. It also claims he failed to take responsibility, acted with political bias, and neglected to protect the rights and privileges of lawmakers.
The resolution further states that Nazim obstructed the Vice President from carrying out duties as a member of parliament.
