The Anti-Scam Centre has recovered MVR 255,710.99 from the MVR 598,467.44 lost to scams reported over the past week.

According to figures released by the centre, a total of 29 scam cases were reported during the period. The majority of complaints were linked to e-commerce and online business scams, with 15 cases recorded.

Authorities advised the public to use “Cash on Delivery” (COD) services and verify the location of stores or warehouses before making purchases online.

Six cases related to dollar trading scams were also reported. The Anti-Scam Centre urged people to check whether sellers are properly licensed and to confirm that phone numbers used on Viber or WhatsApp are genuine before making transactions.

In addition, two cases involving fraudulent phone calls were reported. Officials reminded the public not to click suspicious links or share one-time passwords (OTPs) with anyone.
