President Dr Mohamed Muizzu says more than 1,100 hectares of land have been reclaimed over the past two and a half years as part of the government’s infrastructure and housing development efforts.
Speaking on a program aired on PSM last night, the President said infrastructure development is key to national progress. He noted that around 500 hectares were reclaimed for Rasmalé from 21 islands, while the remaining land was reclaimed from other islands across the country.
The President said housing remains one of the administration’s top priorities, with special attention being given to completing projects started by previous governments.
According to the President, work is currently underway to build about 900 housing units across 13 islands, 4,000 flats in the Malé region, and 2,000 units under the “Affordable Home Ownership” scheme.
He also said discussions are ongoing to develop 4,000 housing units under India’s Line of Credit assistance, while administrative work is progressing to construct 500 flats with support from the Chinese government.
The President added that land reclamation and distribution projects in Hulhumalé Phase 3, Giraavaru Falhu and Gulhifalhu are moving ahead quickly. He further noted that flats developed by Fahidhirulhun Corporation have been completed and handed over to residents.
The President expressed confidence that more housing projects would begin this year and that the government’s pledges would deliver positive results.
