The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has warned the public about 21 medicines being sold in the Maldives without proper registration or approval.
In a post on X, the MFDA said only medicines registered under its guidelines and included in its approved list can be legally imported into the country. However, unauthorized individuals have been illegally importing and selling medicines online and through general stores.
The list of unregistered medicines includes pain relief drugs, skin disease treatments, flu medications, and medicines used by people with diabetes.
The MFDA said the quality and safety of these medicines cannot be guaranteed, warning that their use could pose serious health risks due to uncertainty about their contents.
The authority stated that the import, sale, and use of such medicines are prohibited in the Maldives. The public has been asked to report any information related to the medicines through the MFDA hotline at 7200321.
