Arrangements have been made for Maldivians to travel to Seychelles for up to 30 days without a visa. This agreement was signed during the ongoing official visit to the Maldives by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Seychelles, Barry Faure.
In a post on X, Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam stated that under this agreement, citizens of both countries will be allowed to travel visa-free for 30 days starting from yesterday.
Iruthisham noted that during the meeting with Barry Faure, both ministers discussed the close, friendly relations between the Maldives and Seychelles as neighboring nations in the Indian Ocean.
Furthermore, they agreed to strengthen cooperation among Small Island Developing States in regional and multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, AOSIS, and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.
In her remarks during the meeting, Minister Iruthisham highlighted that this is the first official visit to the Maldives by a Foreign Minister of Seychelles, noting that it also marks the first official meeting since the formation of the new government in Seychelles.
She expressed hope that this agreement will further boost tourism, strengthen people-to-people ties, and provide greater encouragement for citizens of both the Maldives and Seychelles to travel to each other's countries.
