The first group of Maldivian pilgrims has departed for Saudi Arabia to perform this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

A total of four flights will be operated to transport pilgrims, including two flights by Saudi Arabian Airlines and two by Maldivian.

The first batch of pilgrims is scheduled to travel on May 17, 18 and 19. According to the schedule, 257 pilgrims will depart on a Maldivian flight on May 17, while 267 pilgrims will travel on a Saudi Airlines flight on May 18. Another 256 pilgrims are scheduled to depart on a second Maldivian flight.

The annual Hajj pilgrimage is one of the five pillars of Islam and is observed by Muslims from around the world.
