Former MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has called on the country’s three former presidents to unite in protest against the government and help make the people’s concerns heard.
In a post on X, Fayyaz accused President Dr Mohamed Muizzu of breaking his presidential oath and said the state was under complete control of the government.
He urged opposition leaders, including former presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, to put aside differences and work together to “save the country.”
Fayyaz also called on judges and independent institutions to act to immediately free journalists.
His remarks came after two journalists were found guilty of contempt of court for violating a gag order related to a documentary published by a newspaper.
