The MET Office has stated that swell surges are expected during high tide tonight.

Meteorologist Abdulla Hafiz told "One" today that weather forecasts indicate a possibility of swell waves affecting the central and southern atolls during high tide hours.

"Winds have remained consistently strong for about two days now. Winds will remain strong today as well as tomorrow. There is a high chance of swell surges during high tide today. It has been rainy for 24 hours, and notably, wind speeds are holding strong across all areas of the Maldives," Hafiz said.

As seas are expected to be rough during gusts, the MET Office has urged those traveling by sea to be cautious of the weather.

"It will become rough during gusts. It is a major request for those traveling by sea to be attentive to the weather. Wave heights in the open sea are noted to be between seven and eight feet. This is more prominent in the large open seas outside the atolls rather than within the atolls," Hafiz added.

Meteorologist Tahmeena Abdul Kareem told "One" today that high tide will reach the north of the Maldives at 8:00 PM tonight, while the central and southern regions will experience high tide after 9:00 PM tonight.

"The highest tide will be at 22:14. In the south of the Maldives, it will be at 23:19, and in the north, it will be at 20:42 tonight."

The MET Office today issued a White Alert from Baa Atoll to Addu City. Winds are expected to range between 10 to 24 miles per hour, with gusts potentially reaching 45 miles per hour.
