The Parliament has approved the import of methylphenidate, a key medication used to treat children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
The decision followed recommendations from the National Drug Control Council (NDC). The government submitted the proposal to Parliament last week, seeking approval to remove methylphenidate from the list of banned substances under the Narcotics Act.
In a letter to Parliament Speaker, President Mohamed Muizzu said the medication is considered a first-line treatment for children with ADHD.
The proposal was reviewed by Parliament’s Committee on National Security Services before being passed unanimously by all 52 lawmakers present during the sitting.
