The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Maldivians living in Middle Eastern countries to exercise special caution due to the ongoing conflict in the region.

In a statement released tonight, the Foreign Ministry appealed to Maldivian citizens residing in the region, as well as those traveling there for various purposes, to prioritize their personal safety and security.

Furthermore, the Ministry advised citizens not to leave their homes unless for essential needs and to strictly follow the instructions provided by the relevant authorities of their respective countries of residence.

The statement noted that the Maldivian government is closely monitoring the situation of Maldivians in the region through the Maldivian embassies established in the Middle East.

In this regard, the Ministry stated that arrangements have been made to provide necessary consular assistance to Maldivians through the Maldivian embassies in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Saudi Arabia.

"Therefore, all Maldivians in the region are requested to register at their nearest embassy as soon as possible," the Ministry's statement said.

The government is also taking several measures to mitigate the potential negative impacts on the Maldivian economy caused by the situation in the Middle East.

The Foreign Ministry's statement highlighted that work is underway in collaboration with the State Trading Organization (STO) to address potential difficulties in importing fuel to the Maldives. It also mentioned that discussions are ongoing with relevant institutions to monitor changes that may affect the tourism industry and global travel systems, and to take necessary steps to maintain the country's economic stability.
