The Maldives and Sri Lanka have held high-level discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, tourism, and trade.
These talks took place during a meeting today between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, as part of the President’s ongoing state visit to the neighboring country.
According to the President’s Office, both leaders reflected on the 60-year history of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. They highlighted that the close bond between the two nations is built on shared principles and strong ties, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations for the mutual benefit and progress of both countries.
The President’s Office further noted that the meeting involved extensive discussions on bolstering cooperation in key development sectors. Specifically, the talks focused on intensifying joint efforts in environmental conservation, expanding tourism initiatives, and increasing trade volume between the two nations.
This state visit, taking place from May 3 to May 6, is being made at the official invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
