President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that discussions are currently taking place regarding the establishment of a Bank of Maldives (BML) branch in Sri Lanka.

Speaking at a ceremony held today to sign seven Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) during his ongoing state visit to Sri Lanka, the President stated that the government is exploring ways to expand Maldivian financial services across national borders. He noted that opening a BML branch in Sri Lanka is a key part of these ongoing deliberations.

The President described his talks with the Sri Lankan President as highly productive, covering a wide range of sectors for bilateral cooperation. These areas include trade and investment, healthcare, defense, education, youth and sports, fisheries, environment, and infrastructure development. President Muizzu emphasized that the agreements being signed between the two nations would bring significant benefits to the Maldives and further solidify the long-standing relationship between the two neighbors.

In his remarks, the President further highlighted that Sri Lanka remains a crucial development partner and a historic friend of the Maldives. He expressed confidence that these new initiatives and strengthened ties would lead to mutual growth and prosperity for both countries.
