President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed departed for Sri Lanka today on an official visit. The trip, which begins today and concludes this coming Wednesday, is being made at the official invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

According to the President's Office, the President will meet with senior Sri Lankan officials during this visit to discuss further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries. The discussions are expected to cover new avenues for cooperation in education, technical training, economic collaboration, governance, heritage, and working together in the international arena. Additionally, several agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in various fields are scheduled to be signed in the presence of both leaders.

During the visit, the President is also set to participate in the Maldives-Sri Lanka Business Forum and will hold a meeting with the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka. This visit provides an opportunity to discuss shared priorities and reinforce the close ties between the two nations, following President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s official visit to the Maldives from July 28 to 30 last year.

This visit also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Formal diplomatic ties between the two neighboring countries were first established on July 26, 1965.
