President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that more than 23,000 jobs have been created across the government and private sectors during the first two years of his administration. In a Workers’ Day message, he emphasized that service to the nation is vital to preserving independence and sovereignty.
He highlighted that work is regarded as a form of worship in Islam and urged citizens to remain productive and resilient amid changing times. The government has introduced policies to strengthen skills development, including the establishment of the Maldives’ first vocational high school and specialized training programs in key sectors.
Efforts to support economic growth include increased subsidies for artists, partnerships with international e-commerce platforms, and initiatives like the National Service to prepare youth for employment. Programs are also underway to create job opportunities for people with disabilities and allow individuals to continue working beyond age 65.
The administration is supporting small businesses, expanding agriculture, tourism, and industrial projects, and addressing challenges faced by fishermen. Measures are also being taken to regulate expatriate employment while prioritizing opportunities for Maldivians.
The president reaffirmed that achieving a self-reliant Maldives by 2045 depends on a hardworking national workforce and called on citizens to contribute to the country’s development.
