Vice President Uz Mohamed Latheef has called on journalists to act responsibly when sharing information and to remain committed to the core principles of journalism.

In a post on his official X account, he stressed that ethical journalism should ensure accuracy, promote accountability and transparency, and support democratic values.

He warned that ignoring these standards could lead to misinformation, cause harm, and create public unrest among those who depend on reliable reporting.

The Vice President's remarks follow the recent raid on Adhadhu Online's office and the subsequent confiscation of equipment by police in connection with their investigation into a documentary by Adhadhu placing serious allegations of misconduct on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The President denied all allegations and stated that legal action will be pursued against such defaming content.

Home Minister Ihusan stated that police acted within its rights to investigate the allegations against the President.

Adhadhu Online's CEO Hussain Fiyaz and Editor Hassan Hussain's passports have since been confiscated as part of the investigations as well.

The incident has raised concerns from local and international media, calling this investigation unethical and urging the government not to curb press freedom.
