President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that efforts to downsize the government are currently underway and that he intends to make it as lean as possible.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office today, the President noted that the public desires a smaller government characterized by good governance. He added that citizens expect a fair and transparent recruitment process for employment.

"We have already reduced the number of ministries by five, bringing the total down to 15. However, simply reducing the number of ministries does not mean the government is downsized. Therefore, structural downsizing is now in progress. As part of this, we are working to release as many appointed staff as possible based on performance reviews," the President said.

The President stated that the public has expressed that the practice of awarding jobs for campaign purposes or political reasons must end, and he pledged to act accordingly.

He further noted that, moving forward, recruitment for positions will be conducted through public advertisements, where candidates will be selected based on their CVs and merit. The President also mentioned that instructions have been issued to terminate individuals who were appointed through irregular or illegal means.
