The Special Cabinet Committee, formed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, has assured that the Maldives will maintain an uninterrupted supply of essential goods despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East and global market instability.

At a press briefing held at the President’s Office, the Committee said coordinated efforts with relevant ministries have secured alternative import sources from countries including China, India, Türkiye, and ASEAN member states. The aim is to strengthen supply chain resilience and ensure consistent availability of essential commodities.

Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed said the government has worked with foreign partners to diversify supply routes. Finance Minister and Committee Chair Moosa Zameer confirmed that arrangements are in place to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply for both consumers and businesses.

Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam noted that over 1.1 million litres of subsidised fuel have been distributed to support fishermen. The Committee also highlighted expanded financial support through the Bank of Maldives to help businesses manage economic pressures.

Authorities said support measures are ongoing across key sectors including tourism, fisheries, aviation, agriculture, and SMEs. The Committee added that around 7% of the government’s pay harmonisation programme remains to be completed, with instructions issued to finalise it soon.

The Committee, first formed in February and reconstituted in April, said its focus remains on maintaining economic stability and ensuring uninterrupted national services.
