The MET Office has stated that while rain is expected across various regions today and tomorrow, weather conditions are projected to improve starting this coming Saturday.
Meteorologist Azeema Ahmed told "One" today that weather conditions in the northern atolls are not expected to be poor over the coming week, though some scattered showers are anticipated on Friday.
"Looking at the central atolls, rain is expected in some islands, as well as in the central and southern regions. The southern atolls will experience some showers. We expect the weather to improve starting Saturday," Azeema said.
Seas are generally expected to be slight to moderate, though they may become somewhat rough during squalls. The MET Office urges the public to remain cautious as rain and thunderstorms are forecast.
"The seas will generally remain slight to moderate but are expected to be slightly rough during showers. While the seas may not be generally rough, it is a safe precaution to be mindful during rain and thunder. We urge everyone to check weather information before commencing any travel," Azeema added.
While winds are not expected to be particularly strong over the weekend, wave heights are forecasted to stay between two and five feet. Wind speeds are expected to range between five and fifteen miles per hour.
Additionally, due to the likelihood of heavy rain and thunderstorms, the MET Office has issued a White Alert valid until 13:00 today for the area spanning from Haa Alif Atoll to Dhaal Atoll.
