A new amendment to the Land Transport Act has been proposed to improve compensation for accident victims. The bill, submitted by North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudoo), seeks to introduce comprehensive motor insurance alongside the existing mandatory third-party coverage.

Currently, while third-party insurance is required, it does not fully compensate vehicle owners or drivers for damages. The proposed change would ensure broader coverage, including compensation for permanent injuries, disabilities, and long-term medical expenses.

Under the amendment, vehicles must have comprehensive insurance before being driven, ensuring that both victims and those involved in accidents receive adequate financial protection. The proposal highlights the need for stronger safeguards, particularly for cases involving lifelong or severe injuries.
