Work has begun on reprofiling the breakwater at Rasfannu as part of an extensive maintenance project.

The Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure announced last Thursday that the area has been temporarily closed to the public to facilitate these necessary repairs.

MTCC, the contractor managing the project, stated yesterday that their primary focus is to complete the maintenance as swiftly as possible to ensure Rasfannu can be reopened to the public at the earliest opportunity.

According to MTCC, the scope of work includes addressing beach erosion, modifying the breakwater to enhance water circulation within the swimming area, and installing an effective drainage system throughout the Rasfannu premises.

Rasfannu is a vital recreational hub for residents living on the western side of Malé City, popular for swimming and evening strolls with children. Additionally, the elevated area near the West Park side remains a favored spot for recreational fishing. The facility also features a takeaway outlet, a barbecue area, and traditional Maldivian 'joali' seats for visitors to relax.
