Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced a series of cost-cutting measures to reduce company expenses and support government efforts to address the economic impact of the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.
In a statement released yesterday, MPL confirmed that the changes will take effect starting Tuesday. Key measures include shortening administrative working hours from 7:30–15:30 to 7:30–14:00, while ensuring operational shift workers do not exceed eight hours per day.
The company will also suspend non-essential overseas travel, reduce spending on foreign trips, and shift meetings with international clients and suppliers to online platforms. Training programs abroad have been halted, with employees encouraged to participate virtually instead.
Additionally, the Maldives Maritime Conference 2026 has been rescheduled from 15 November to 5 October 2026. MPL will also implement steps to reduce electricity usage and promote energy-saving habits among staff.
Despite these changes, MPL assured that unloading and clearing services will continue without disruption, maintaining support for customers and business operations.
