The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has reported that the "feels-like" temperature across various parts of the country has been rising, with some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
The MET Office has indicated that temperatures are expected to remain high throughout this month and the next. According to current records, the highest feels-like temperature was recorded in HDh. Hanimaadhoo, reaching 39 degrees Celsius.
However, a slight respite is expected as scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecasted for the central and southern atolls later this week. The MET Office predicted that some southern islands might experience rain and thunder until 6:00 PM today. While the northern atolls may also see some showers, the weather is generally expected to remain fair.
MET Office temperature records as of 11:00 AM today:
- Hanimaadhoo: Actual temperature 33°C; Feels-like 39°C.
- Hulhulé: Actual temperature 32°C; Feels-like 37°C.
- Kadhdhoo: Actual temperature 31.6°C; Feels-like 35.8°C.
- Kaadedhdhoo: Actual temperature 30.8°C; Feels-like 36°C.
- Gan: Actual temperature 26.3°C; Feels-like 29.9°C.
While the average actual temperature in the Maldives during this season is approximately 32°C, high humidity levels cause the heat index (feels-like temperature) to range between 32°C and 45°C. This level is classified as a "Caution" zone for health safety.
