The state-run Malé Taxi Line has announced free taxi services until the end of next Thursday following its official launch.

The service was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held in Hulhumalé Central Park, starting with a fleet of 150 vehicles.

In a statement, MTCC said the free trial period is aimed at gathering public feedback to improve service quality before fares are introduced. Customers can book rides through the 1655 hotline during this period.

MTCC signed an agreement with the Transport Ministry on February 15, 2025, to establish the taxi service in the Greater Malé Region.

CEO and Managing Director Ahmed Saud described the initiative as a major step forward for urban transport, noting it will help address the shortage of taxis and improve daily travel.

The Malé Taxi Line will operate 24 hours a day using electric vehicles. Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen also announced plans to expand the service to Addu City later this year.
