The Criminal Court has once again ruled that Mohamed Samah is guilty of the murder of Police Sergeant Adam Haleem (Kethi, K. Kaashidhoo).

Adam Haleem was fatally stabbed on July 22, 2012, while on his way to report for duty in Kaashidhoo. Following the initial trial, the Criminal Court sentenced Samah to death on January 25, 2013, after finding him guilty of the murder. This verdict was subsequently upheld by the High Court during the appeal process on September 30, 2020.

Despite the High Court sustaining the death sentence, the Supreme Court later ordered a retrial of the case.

Following the Supreme Court's directive, the Criminal Court conducted a retrial and determined today that the charges against Samah for the murder of Adam Haleem have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The sentencing phase for Samah is scheduled to take place this coming Thursday.

Sergeant Adam Haleem was killed during an attack that occurred when he attempted to take Samah into custody. Samah, who was supposed to be under house arrest at the time, was found wandering the island. During the initial trial, Samah confessed to the crime, stating he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

However, he later retracted his confession, alleging that it was obtained through police coercion and physical abuse. The original death sentence issued by the lower court was based on his initial confession.
