Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has decided to hold "walk-in" interviews tomorrow to recruit drivers for its taxi line service.

MTCC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Transport on February 15, 2025, to launch a government-operated taxi line service in the Malé region.

The walk-in interviews are scheduled to take place tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Maafannu Bus Terminal in Malé.

MTCC had previously announced its requirement for over 400 drivers to commence the taxi service. According to their earlier statement, the company is seeking 122 part-time drivers and 285 full-time drivers for the Greater Malé area.

Successful candidates will be required to work within the Malé region. MTCC noted that priority will be given to individuals already registered in the Ministry of Transport's taxi driver database.

During a press conference at the President's Office on the 4th of this month, Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen stated that efforts are underway to launch the taxi line service before the end of Ramadan.

The Minister added that modifications to the vehicles, intended to suit the local environment, have been completed. He explained that since the Maldives consists of islands where taxis operate near the sea, specific changes were necessary for the cars' electronic components.

Minister Ameen further disclosed that three different models of cars will be utilized in the service. The procurement is being managed in two batches; one batch consisting of 60 cars will be imported from Thailand, while the remaining vehicles will be sourced from China. He mentioned that two different models will be brought from China.

The taxi line service is set to launch with a total fleet of 150 vehicles.
