The Malé City Council has announced a tender for the repair and maintenance of Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa 1 and 2 flats for a duration of one year.
The redevelopment of the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa sites—which involves the demolition of existing structures to make way for a new housing project—remains a key presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Under this initiative, current residents are set to receive new apartments free of charge, a vision that was initially approved by the City Council during the President's tenure as Mayor of Malé.
Following a meeting with the residents of Galolhu last December, where tenants expressed significant grievances, President Muizzu decided to waive all outstanding fines and provide a financial grant of MVR 100,000 to each household.
This grant was introduced as a form of relief and compensation, acknowledging the aging infrastructure and structural deterioration of the buildings that had remained unaddressed for years. In implementing this benefit, if a flat owner’s total debt exceeds MVR 100,000, that amount will be deducted from their balance. If the debt is less than MVR 100,000, the remaining funds will be deposited directly into the owner’s bank account.
In addition to the financial measures, Malé City Council is now moving forward with maintenance efforts. Parties interested in repairing and maintaining the flats and their elevators are invited to attend an information session this coming Thursday. Price proposals for Malé Hiyaa must be submitted by the 5th of next month.
A separate tender has been opened for the maintenance of Sinamalé 1, 2, 3, and 4 flats. Interested parties for this contract are also required to attend the information session this Thursday, with price proposals due by the 6th of next month.
Eligibility for these tenders is restricted to Maldivian companies, partnerships, local investments, and registered businesses with valid operating licenses.
