Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has assured that the Maldives will not face fuel shortages despite a sharp rise in global oil prices triggered by unrest in the Middle East.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, Minister Saeed said international fuel prices increased by 25 to 30 percent recently. He acknowledged that the global situation has affected commodity prices but emphasized that the government is taking necessary measures to safeguard national fuel stocks.
The minister stated that there is no need for public concern, as arrangements have already been made to secure fuel and LPG supplies. He noted that an oil shipment is currently on its way to the Maldives.
With the number of tourists and foreign workers in the country increasing, the government is working to ensure stable supplies of food and fuel for everyone. Minister Saeed also confirmed that there are no issues with aviation fuel and that authorities are closely monitoring developments to prevent disruptions.
