The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation says discussions are ongoing with relevant authorities to bring more airlines to the Maldives.
In a statement issued today, the ministry said it is closely monitoring the situation amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and restrictions on the use of airspace. It noted that flights to and from the Middle East are vital to the Maldivian economy, and the government is working closely with airlines and international authorities.
The ministry added that talks are underway with airlines from Southeast Asia, East Asia, and India to minimize the impact of the current disruptions.
While schedules of some Middle Eastern airlines operating to the Maldives have changed, other flights continue as planned. The ministry said efforts are focused on reducing difficulties faced by tourists and Maldivians traveling or living abroad.
“The Maldives has always welcomed tourists from all over the world, and we are committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and hospitality in aviation,” the statement said.
