Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has dispatched 55 out of the 56 ambulances brought into the country under a program aimed at providing sustainable ambulance services to all islands in the Maldives.

Under this program conducted by the Ministry of Health, MPL was contracted in 2025 to procure 56 ambulances through a contractor financing model.

MPL stated that out of the 56 ambulances imported, one was allocated to the Maldives Correctional Service, while the remaining 55 have been distributed to various islands in both the north and south of the Maldives.

The work of dispatching these ambulances to the islands commenced on the 17th of last month and was successfully completed on the 14th of this month.

In addition to handing over the vehicles, MPL noted that its mechanical team provided technical information regarding the operation, repair, and maintenance of the ambulances to the staff of hospitals and health centers. The company also assisted in identifying and troubleshooting issues with some of the ambulances currently in use.

Furthermore, MPL indicated that discussions are underway to establish a service contract with the Ministry of Health for the future servicing of these ambulances and the provision of necessary spare parts.
