President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has participated in a door-to-door campaign to garner public support for the People's National Congress (PNC) in the upcoming local council elections scheduled for April 4th.

Participating in his capacity as the leader of the PNC, the President visited several households in the Maafannu West constituency during today’s campaign activities. He also interacted with a large number of citizens on the streets.

Accompanying the President during today’s campaign were cabinet ministers, members of the PNC leadership, and Moosa Ali Jaleel, the PNC candidate for Malé City Mayor. They were joined by PNC candidates contesting for the Malé City Council and Women’s Development Committees (WDC), as well as members of the PNC parliamentary group.

Due to the lack of opposing candidates in some areas and the withdrawal of nominations by others, the PNC has already secured a total of 69 seats without a contest. This includes 28 seats in local councils.

In the upcoming elections featuring candidates from six political parties, a total of 626 island councillors and 52 city councillors will be elected. An equal number of members will also be elected for the Women’s Development Committees. A total of 2,962 candidates are contesting in these elections.

There are 294,937 eligible voters for these elections, consisting of 144,527 women and 150,410 men.

In addition to the local council and WDC elections, a public referendum is also scheduled to be held on the same day to seek the citizens' opinion on whether presidential and parliamentary elections should be held concurrently in the future.
