President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to completely waive the fines for residents of Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats and provide them with a benefit of MVR 100,000, following a meeting to address their long-standing concerns.

The President first decided to waive these fines and provide financial assistance on January 5th. He subsequently instructed the Malé City Council to implement this decision on the 7th of the same month.

The President's Office stated yesterday that President Dr. Muizzu met with the residents of the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats located in the Galolhu ward of Malé City to find solutions to their grievances. The meeting took place yesterday afternoon at Muleeaage, the President's official residence.

During the meeting, residents expressed their concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of the buildings, as well as issues related to rent and accumulated fines.

To address these issues, the President decided to grant benefits to the owners of Sinamalé 1, 2, 3, and 4, as well as Malé Hiyaa 1 and 2.

In addition to the total waiver of fines accumulated due to non-payment, the President decided to award MVR 100,000 to each household as an allowance, acknowledging the age of the flats, the damaged structural integrity, and the fact that these issues remained unaddressed for a long period.

Regarding the disbursement of this benefit, if the total amount owed by the owner for the flat exceeds MVR 100,000, that amount will be deducted from their debt. If the outstanding balance is less than MVR 100,000, the debt will be cleared, and the remaining balance from the MVR 100,000 will be deposited into the owner's bank account, according to the President's Office.

The President's Office further noted that for those who have already completed all payments to own their flats, the full MVR 100,000 will be deposited directly into the apartment owner's bank account.
