The third phase of the development of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé City will begin during Ramadan, extending from the official jetty to the MTCC Ferry Terminal.

The road on the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu was widened under an earlier phase that began on August 21, 2025. A tree-planting ceremony was held yesterday evening to mark the reopening of the road, which was opened for public transport at 5:00 a.m.

Speaking at the ceremony, CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company, Ahmed Saudhee, said the next phase is expected to be completed by April or May. He noted challenges faced ahead of Ramadan, including tidal flooding and limited working hours, but said teams worked hard to complete the project.

Saudhee added that all water and sewerage pipelines required by Malé Water and Sewerage Company have been installed, along with dewatering work. Utility cables from STELCO, Ooredoo Maldives, Dhiraagu and CableNet have also been secured.

He said support from State Trading Organization, Maldives Ports Limited, Waste Management Corporation Limited and Road Development Corporation was key to completing the project.

The MVR 144.5 million project was awarded to MTCC with a completion period of 455 days. Once fully developed, the widened road is expected to ease traffic congestion in one of the busiest areas of Malé, which was previously limited to one-way traffic.
