The project to widen and develop the northern segment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé has been completed and was officially opened to traffic early this morning.
Physical works on the expansion and asphalt paving of this northern section commenced on August 21st of last year.
In a press release issued last night, the Ministry of Transport stated that the newly developed segment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, stretching from Chaandhanee Magu to Faalandhoshu Hingun, has been designated for two-way traffic.
The road was opened for commuters and public transportation at 5:00 AM today. As part of the final preparations for the opening, a tree-planting activity was also conducted in the area yesterday afternoon.
The modern development of Boduthakurufaanu Magu was awarded to MTCC for a contract value of MVR 144,509,024.16 (144.5 million), with a completion timeline of 455 days.
This specific area of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is recognized as one of the busiest districts in Malé. With the widening now complete, the road presents a much more spacious layout. Previously limited to one-way traffic, the shift to a two-way system is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
