Five judges who retired from the Maldivian judiciary were honoured on this evening at a ceremony held at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSC) to mark the inauguration of the Judicial Year 2026.

The event was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, Supreme Court judges, judges from various courts, and cabinet ministers.

During the ceremony, the retired judges were presented with the seal of the Supreme Court and medals of honour. The medals were presented by Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee in recognition of their long and dedicated service to the judiciary.

The judges honoured were retired Chief Justice Abdul Muthasim Adnan, who retired in July 2025 after serving 9 years, 7 months and 12 days; Ustaz Mohamed Niyaz, who retired from the High Court in December 2025 after 19 years, 1 month and 18 days of service; Al-Ustaz Ibrahim Shakeeb, who retired in December 2025 after serving as Chief Magistrate of the Himmafushi Magistrate Court, and as a judge for 11 years; Al-Ustad Ahmed Mustafa, who retired in September 2025 as a Family Court judge after 20 years of service; and Al-Ustad Ali Ahmed, former Chief Magistrate of the Nolhivaranfaru Magistrate Court, who served for 28 years, 7 months and 12 days and retired in January 2025.

The honour is a special recognition awarded to judges for their contribution and service to the judiciary.
