The land reclamation project at Giravarufalhu has officially resumed today.
Under the previous administration’s "Binveriya" scheme, it was initially decided to allocate 2,000 land plots from Giravarufalhu to residents of Male'. However, due to space constraints that prevented the allocation of the full 2,000 plots from this area, the current government decided to provide the remaining plots from Gulhifalhu and opened an opportunity for applicants to transfer their plots.
During this period, a total of 2,210 individuals requested to have their land plots relocated to Gulhifalhu.
In a post on X today, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu confirmed that the reclamation work at Giravarufalhu has recommenced. The President also shared photographs and video footage showing the progress of the reclamation activities.
The Giravarufalhu reclamation project is being carried out by Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMCC).
According to government records, a total of 160 hectares of land is scheduled to be reclaimed at Giravarufalhu. The project had previously come to a halt after the completion of 54 hectares.
The resumption of the work follows the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development's release of the updated Land Use Plan for Giravarufalhu last week.
