Minister of Cities and Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has said that the canned tuna cases for distribution to every household in the Maldives as Ramadan gifts will be completed within this week.

In a post on X last night, the Minister said that by 8:06 p.m., 4,805 households in Malé City had collected their numbers through the online portal to receive the Ramadan gifts. He clarified that the numbers issued were only for the night and that work is ongoing to send canned tuna cases to the atolls. According to the Minister, cases will be delivered to all atolls by the end of this week, ensuring that every household receives the Ramadan gift.

Tuna cans will be released daily until the 11th of next month, from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., except on Fridays. In islands and cities outside Malé, a household is defined as each Maldivian family that cooks and eats separately, while in the Malé area, each registered household is considered separately. Based on housing lists, there are 56,918 households in islands and cities, and 61,755 domestic meters in the Greater Malé Area, bringing the total number of households to 118,673.

STO will deliver canned tuna cases to islands and cities, while local councils will manage distribution in those areas. Distribution in the Greater Malé Region, including Malé, Vilimalé, and Hulhumalé, is already underway. In the Greater Malé Region, tuna cases are being released from locations including the MIFCO Center, Social Center, MTCC Sovil-Henveiru Football Stadium, Galolhu Farm sites, several locations in Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2, and the WAMCO site in Vilimalé.

The Ramadan gift portal roadhahadhiya.mv has been launched by the authorities, and registration remains open. Several institutions, including the MNDF, MPL, WAMCO, MWSC, and MIFCO, are involved in the distribution process. Complaints related to the distribution can be submitted via WhatsApp by messaging 7741446.
