The GDh. Madaveli Council has announced that it is unable to issue documents verifying that individuals have resided in Male' for a continuous period of 15 years, a requirement for the government's housing scheme.
Under the initiative, the government has opened applications for 15,000 land plots and 7,900 flats. The Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development stated that this scheme includes opportunities for both permanent residents of Male' and those from other islands currently living in the capital. According to the Ministry, residents from other islands applying for the 3,000 allocated land plots must prove they have lived in Male' for a minimum of 15 consecutive years.
The Ministry further clarified that applicants may submit official documents maintained by state institutions to prove their 15-year residency in Male'.
In a press release issued yesterday, the Madaveli Council noted that since the opening of the housing applications, numerous residents have requested documents certifying their residency in Male'. However, the Council stated that it does not maintain any such records.
"As this Council does not officially maintain such information, we wish to inform the public that we are unable to issue such documentation to any party," the Madaveli Council stated.
The Council explained that this decision was made because the policy stipulates that residency documents issued by island or city councils will not be accepted if they are not based on verifiable records maintained by the respective council.
