Attorney General Ahmed Usham has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to ensuring that children grow up in a safe and supportive environment.

The statement was made during the Maldives’ participation in the review session of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, which assessed the country’s Periodic Report submitted in 2021 under the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Speaking as head of the Maldivian delegation, Usham said protecting children and securing their future remains a national priority. He emphasized that every child should grow up with dignity, safety, and equal opportunity.

Usham noted that the International Convention on the Rights of the Child continues to guide the Maldives’ laws, policies, and development efforts. He added that the current administration is committed to strengthening institutions and creating safe, respectful, and empowering environments for children.

During the session, the delegation addressed questions on progress made since 2016 in implementing the convention. The Maldives signed the convention on February 11, 1991.
