The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported an increase in dengue cases in the Maldives, with the number rising from 382 cases in November to 413 cases in December. HPA stressed that preventive measures are essential to reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue.

HPA advised the public to keep doors and windows closed during the morning and evening hours and to avoid disposing of water-holding containers such as empty bottles and cans on the streets, as these can become breeding sites for mosquitoes.

For those recovering from dengue at home, HPA recommended adequate rest, increased fluid intake, including water, oral rehydration salts, and soups, and the use of paracetamol to manage fever and body pain. The agency emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention if a fever lasts more than three days, if medication cannot be taken, or if severe pain occurs.

Meanwhile, HPA noted a decrease in flu cases. While 32,859 flu cases were reported in November, the number dropped to 28,619 cases in December.
