The Elections Commission (EC) has announced that 294,937 people are eligible to vote in the upcoming local council and women’s development committee elections, which are scheduled to be held on April 4.

According to the EC, the eligible voters include 144,527 women and 150,410 men. The voters list has been published, and the commission has opened a period for submitting complaints.

The voters list will be available on the EC website, in the government gazette, and at the council offices of all inhabited islands and cities except Malé. Voters can also check their registered polling location by sending their ID number via SMS to 1414.

Complaints regarding the voters list can be submitted through the EC’s My Portal until 3:00 pm on Sunday, the 18th of this month. The EC said that any request to change information on the list must be supported by an official document. Political parties may submit complaints through the SIM portal assigned to them.

Under the EC’s permanent constituency report, 626 councillors will be elected to island councils and 52 councillors to city councils. Three councillors, including a president and one female member, will be elected to 133 island councils, while five councillors, including a president and two female members, will be elected to 46 island councils. City councils will include seven councillors each in Kulhudhuffushi and Thinadhoo, nine in Fuvahmulah, 11 in Addu City, and 18 in Malé City.
