The Maldives Civil Service Regulation has been amended to change how retirement allowance is paid to retired civil servants who return to public service.
According to the amendment published in the Government Gazette by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), civil servants who retire under the regulation will not be entitled to receive their old age allowance if they are re-elected to a state post or employed in a government institution or state-owned company.
The amendment states that the retirement allowance will be paid on a monthly basis, starting from the month following the date of retirement. Retired employees are also required to inform the Pension Office if they are elected to a public position or take up employment in a state institution or government company.
If an individual continues to receive the old age allowance while employed, the amendment requires that the amount received must be refunded. The regulation further specifies that payment of the allowance must be stopped if a retired person is elected to an official position or employed by the state or a state-owned company.
The amended regulation came into effect today.
