Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed (Asward) has announced that a significant portion of the Media Village project has been completed.
During a press conference held today at the President's Office, Asward stated that a large part of the Media Village, being developed in the former STO City Hotel building, is now finished. He added that updates on the project are being closely monitored in collaboration with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
"Approximately 70 percent of the Media Village project has been completed," the Minister said.
The Minister further stated that once the Media Village is finished, arrangements will be made for media outlets to operate from there with great ease and convenience.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu first announced the establishment of a Media Village during the Independence Day ceremony held at the Social Center last year.
In that ceremony, the President had stated his desire to govern with a very transparent approach, maintaining close ties with the media.
"I mentioned that a Media Village would be established. To achieve this, the Cabinet has now decided on the implementation plan. There is an incomplete building in Hulhumalé, an STO building originally intended for a hotel, which has been in development for many years. That building has now been acquired by the government. Some floors of this building will be dedicated to establishing the aforementioned Media Village. Space will be provided to each media outlet, according to a set policy, at a very low cost for their office operations," the President had stated.
The President also mentioned that the Media Village would feature high-quality studios of various sizes and would provide production facilities required by TV stations.
