Police have released 105 vehicles that were towed from Hulhumalé during an operation to clear improperly parked vehicles.

The vehicles were removed in a joint effort by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the Ministry of Transport, targeting vehicles parked on vacant plots of land in Hulhumalé. In total, police towed 787 vehicles during the operation.

In a statement issued on November 11, police said arrangements were made to release the vehicles once they were brought to the Hulhumalé Phase 1 Police Station, after owners paid the required traffic fines.

Police said the 105 vehicles were released after verifying that the owners had submitted proof of fine payment to the relevant authority, along with a guarantee document confirming the vehicle would be taken to its registered parking zone.

Police also explained that unregistered vehicles can be released after owners submit documents showing where the vehicle will be temporarily parked. Vehicles imported without permission from the Ministry of Transport will be released after documents are submitted confirming the vehicle will be moved to a garage.
